POSITION: INTERIM DIRECTOR OF MUSIC DATE: April 12, 2018

CURRENT EMPLOYEE: Vacant

EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND COMPENSATION: Part Time Employee - $1,185/mo.

1.0MAJOR FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

1.1To coordinate the music program of our church.

2.0SUPERVISION RECEIVED

2.1The Interim Director of Music is supervised by the Pastor and is accountable to the Session through the Personnel Committee.

3.0SUPERVISION EXERCISED

3.1Supervises all music-related employees and volunteers of First Presbyterian Church of Hemet.

4.0DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

4.1Coordinate with the Pastor all aspects of the music program. Attend occasional meetings with the Pastor to coordinate music for worship, as needed.

4.2Select music that has spiritual and musical integrity and is consistent with Reformed theology.

4.3Conduct weekly Choir rehearsals September – May. Conduct some Saturday rehearsals required for special programs.

4.4Plan, prepare and lead Choir in anthems and special music for each Sunday morning September – May.

4.5Work closely with accompanists for rehearsals, service music and other appropriate services.

4.6Oversee the Growth Through Music and Friends of Music Scholarship program with prior-to-the-start-of-the-semester agreed upon full-time equivalent number of students. Minimum 6 to 8 full-time equivalent students.

4.7Oversee the service and tuning of all church pianos.

4.8Be responsible for the music library.

4.9Monitor and stay within the music budget.

4.10(In collaboration with the Pastor), plan, prepare and conduct special music for all services as directed by the Session such as Christmas Eve, Christmas, Maundy Thursday, and Easter.

4.11Attend all Worship Committee meetings.

4.12Prepare an article for the newsletter each month.

4.13Plan summer music June – August.

4.14Perform other duties assigned.

4.15 Supervise and coordinate the work of pianist and/or organist as needed.

4.16Be open to start a Bell Choir.

5.0VACATION AND PAID TIME OFF: Vacation and time off for part-time position determined by Personnel Manual and with the coordination of the Pastor as Supervisor.

6.0QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

6.1Ability to direct the Choir.

6.2Knowledge of principles of congregational singing.

6.3Skill in working with sound equipment is helpful, but not required.

7.0: Length of Position: Until at least December 31, 2018 and until a suitable candidate for the permanent position is found. This Job Description is intended to be used as a guide.  No attempt has been made to include all tasks performed by the employee.  All tasks will be required to be within the general accepted duties of the job title as understood by reasonable definition.
